How would you rate ELA Basel – The Swiss British School of Basel?
Private schools generally have an unfavourable reputation in Switzerland and this is precisely why. ELA is a virulent environment for students and staff. The educational practice is rooted in antiquated pedagogy and British imperialism. It is entirely absent of the ethical tenets it purports to possess. ELA invests most of its resources in curating the thinly veiled veneer of professionalism rather than the actual infrastructure and quality of education. It protects problematic (racist, homophobic, and predatory) staff and ostracises those who are brave enough to speak up in the best interest of children’s safety. Keep your children safe and save exorbitant amounts of money by avoiding this toxic place.
The school is just focused on the money and not on the kids - the teachers are not qualified at all - they have no concept to working with the child to improve on one area. The kids spend most day going up and down the stairs and waiting in line - there is a lot of attention to rules but not on the creativity of the kids. The Christmas show is made by the teachers - the children's activities are done by the teachers (and maybe then the child puts the last bit of paint); The Children come back home super clean - a sign to me that they were not allowed to be children
The school is very poor - in all aspects - Individuality is not encouraged - they want to form only little clones of well behaved pupils with no imagination and no spark. The lunch hall - full of kids is silent - boring - dystopian - no fun is ever allowed. The idea of doing well is to perform a series of tasks like little robots - this school does not form the leaders of tomorrow - but the white collar, boring, unimaginative followers. People who are told what to do - NOT leaders. Extremely bad - they thrive only because there are not many other choices around.
